Not a very good recording, and very short - but this is the flapping of a juvenile bald eagle's wings and its cry. I'm only uploading this because i don't think there are any other samples on freesound. I didn't manage to get a good shot at this one, so that's all there is. But i'll try for a better sample as soon as i can. This is a real bald eagle - not a red-tailed hawk, which is what most eagle samples really are. This is a single guitar string plucked with a pick directly at the headstock, that means between the tuners and the nut. There the string is very short and tight, resulting in a high, almost piano-like tone. Also, since there is no sound box, the tone is rather quiet. I used this for a sampler and i liked the sound of it. This is the raw recording. If you want to use it in a sampler too, i recommend adding some eq, reverb and maybe some delay. It is not perfectly in tune though, the closest note is a#. You might tweak the tuning a little bit when using it in combination with other tuned instruments. I recorded it at a distance of about 5 feet and then again at a distance of about 40 feet from the audience and allowed the sound to reverberate both times. Then i duplicated both and mixed in both original sounds on top of each other, plus each sound pitched down 1 octave and the 40-feet away recording at 2 octaves down, plus the closer recording pitched one octave up. We then added and adjusted reverb in audacity and adjusted the sync of all the clips to be aligned, and adjusted the mix to make it sound as real as possible.

Sample of a metallic percussion hit. The sound is quite dark and muffled. I call it underwater drum, because it sounds to me like it's underwater. This sample is tuned to a1 but there is a very dominant overtone at b1, which is the musical interval of a minor second. The source of the sample was the platter of a dismantled hard disk drive, hit with a wooden mallet. It was then pitched down a lot. The sample is almost raw, i just added some slight eq. The sample was intended to be used with a sampler, you may want to add some reverb for this and filter the previously mentioned overtone, when you use it in combination with other tuned instruments. Also, the pitch is probably not perfectly tuned. Microphone: akq perception 120post-processing: pitch manipulation & eq.

Made in ableton live this time, it is a multilayered loop consisting of recordings of an ak47, a 30 caliber 1918, and an m60 machine gun to make a rediculous powerful sound. A very short clicky kick drum with the high end reduced is added before the initial gunshot to make it punch more, otherwise it would sound weaker. There are two mechanical bolt sounds, one covering the upper mid range, and the other covering the extreme highs. Shell ejections and two reverb tails were mixed in at the end with some simple automated panning to make it move around the stereo field. The tempo slowly decreases to simulate barrel heating. Lots of processing. The layers were eq'ed, then ran into a software amp that is gently distorting the low and mid range. Then smashed together with ott multiband upward/downward compression to bring out the details. A maximizer was used to bring up the loudness some. Enjoy.

This is my recreation of the noise in the background of a video shot on a consumer grade minidv camcorder (a well used one). I haven't had a minidv camcorder on hand for a few years and nobody i knew would give me a recording of just tape motor noise so i went to create the noise myself. This sound is a combination of a very badly pressed dvd in my computer's drive mixed with a tone made in audacity (up one octave from the tone that the disc ended up creating), all mixed down and brought down in volume. I know it's not a prefect recreation, but i don't have a minidv camcorder on hand so this is about as good as i can get it. If anyone has access to an anechoic chamber, a fresh tape, and a well used consumer grade minidv camcorder, please get in touch with me. I'd like the real deal better than my recreation that i did in my spare time. Note on recreating the noise out of hdv camcorders. They have slightly different hardware and as such will create different bearing noise (most times, there's an extra whine on top of the familiar bearing whine heard from standard dv camcorders). I forget the exact frequency, but it's somewhere in the neighborhood of 840hz-860hz and it's a sort of sine wave, but a modest bit more jagged. You'll have to provide your own stock camcorder mic hiss as each camcorder is different (not for definite sure on sony camcorders, but canon camcorders have a pink-ish white noise in about that era).
